How to teach it

Compare a missing factor with a missing dividend. Label what the blank represents in each equation.

Use the model below as you explain the example. Have your student point to the quantities as you discuss them.

If your student needs help

If the student always divides the printed numbers, substitute the proposed answer into the original equation together.

Choosing and using the worksheet

Each sheet contains three missing-factor equations and three missing-dividend equations. Factors are from 2 through 9, and products or dividends range from 4 through 81. Division is exact, with no remainders.

Make a practice set

Select the worksheet, answer key, or both. When both are selected, the answer key prints after the questions. Keep it separate if you want your student to work independently.

After your student finishes

Ask what the blank represents, then substitute the answer to check the complete equation.
