How to teach it
Circle the first group of three shapes and compare it with the next group. Have the student repeat the unit aloud before drawing.
Example to work through together
Use the model below as you explain the example. Have your student point to the quantities as you discuss them.
Read this group aloud: circle, circle, triangle. Repeat it: circle, circle, triangle. After those two complete groups, the next shape is a circle because a new copy of the group begins.
The other pattern on these pages repeats circle, triangle, square. After a circle and triangle at the end of a row, the square completes that group. Always check where the row stops before choosing the next shape.

Which shape comes next within the repeating group?
If your student needs help
If the student copies only the last shape, return to the complete three-shape unit.
Make a practice set
Select the worksheet, answer key, or both. When both are selected, the answer key prints after the questions. Keep it separate if you want your student to work independently.
After your student finishes
Ask the child to point to the repeating group and explain the next shape. Accept a recognizable drawing or a spoken shape name.
