How to teach it

Have the student build a larger shape from smaller ones before drawing it. Discuss where pieces meet and how they can be turned.

Ask your student

Could we make the same outline with the pieces arranged differently?

If your student needs help

If the sketch is difficult, let the student trace the completed arrangement first.

Make a practice set

Select the worksheet, answer key, or both. When both are selected, the answer key prints after the questions. Keep it separate if you want your student to work independently.

After your student finishes

Take one model apart and rebuild it. Ask the child to name or point to the pieces used.
