How to teach it

Place the number between consecutive tens or hundreds on a number line. Locate the midpoint before using a digit rule.

If the student rounds to the wrong place, have them name the two possible rounded values first.

Choosing and using the worksheet

Each set contains six distinct number-and-place questions from the original bank. Numbers range from 10 through 989, with requests for the nearest 10 or 100. The key gives the rounded value. Write neighboring multiples or a short distance comparison in the working space.

Make a practice set

Select the worksheet, answer key, or both. When both are selected, the answer key prints after the questions. Keep it separate if you want your student to work independently.

After your student finishes

Choose one number and round it to both tens and hundreds. Ask why the two answers can differ and verify each with nearby multiples.
