How to teach it

Locate the number between neighboring whole numbers or tenths, depending on the requested place. Mark the midpoint and discuss the nearer endpoint.

If your student needs help

If the student rounds in several steps, return to the original number and round directly to the requested place.

Choosing and using the worksheet

Each set contains six distinct original number-and-place questions with verified answers. Source numbers range from 1 through 90.99 and have at most two decimal places. Requests ask for the nearest whole number or tenth. The key may omit trailing zeros; equivalent values such as 14 and 14.0 are accepted.

Make a practice set

Select the worksheet, answer key, or both. When both are selected, the answer key prints after the questions. Keep it separate if you want your student to work independently.

After your student finishes

Ask the child to name both neighboring values and explain which is closer. For a midpoint, ask why the greater value is chosen.
