How to teach it
Ask the student to estimate the length of a particular book edge. Measure that same edge from zero and compare the results.

Was the estimate close, and what helped you choose it?
If your student needs help
If the student starts at the ruler's edge rather than zero, show the gap and measure again.
Choosing and using the worksheet
This sheet reuses one fixed original book-measurement task with spaces for estimate, measurement, and difference. It does not supply a book, ruler, or printable ruler. New numbers does not change the task. A different book can be used on another printed copy.
Make a practice set
Select the worksheet, answer key, or both. When both are selected, the answer key prints after the questions. Keep it separate if you want your student to work independently.
After your student finishes
Explain whether the estimate was too long or too short and what you would use to estimate again.
