Teach hours and half hours using both clock hands.

How to teach it
Start at an exact hour, then move the minute hand halfway around. Show the hour hand moving halfway toward the next hour.
Example to work through together
Use the model below as you explain the example. Have your student point to the quantities as you discuss them.
3:00: the long hand points to 12 and the short hand points to 3.
3:30: the long hand points to 6 and the short hand is halfway from 3 to 4.

Where should the hour hand be at half past?
If your student needs help
If the student reads the next hour too soon, point to the hour the short hand has already passed.
Choosing and using the worksheet
Each set contains six distinct times at the hour or half hour. The original clock drawings show all twelve numbers and two hands. Sets do not guarantee an equal number of :00 and :30 examples.
Make a practice set
Select the worksheet, answer key, or both. When both are selected, the answer key prints after the questions. Keep it separate if you want your student to work independently.
After your student finishes
Ask the child to explain what each hand tells them. Use a teaching clock to move from an hour to half past that hour and observe both hands.
