How to teach it
Place a decimal in the chart and ask the student to identify the digit in a named place. Include a zero so it is treated as a digit too.
Example to work through together
Use the model below as you explain the example. Have your student point to the quantities as you discuss them.

If your student needs help
If the student names a neighboring digit, read the place names outward from the decimal point together.
Make a practice set
Select the worksheet, answer key, or both. When both are selected, the answer key prints after the questions. Keep it separate if you want your student to work independently.
After your student finishes
Choose one answer and ask for both the digit and its value. If the child can name the digit but cannot explain its value, return to tenths, hundredths, and thousandths before increasing the number of questions.
