How to teach it

Line up decimal points and compare the whole-number parts, tenths, and hundredths in order.

Ask your student

Does having more decimal digits always make a number larger?

If your student needs help

If the student compares digit counts, show equivalent forms such as 0.5 and 0.50.

Choosing and using the worksheet

Each set selects six distinct original pairs: four symbol questions and two questions that explicitly ask for a place-value explanation. Values range from 0 through 9.99, with at most two decimal places. Whole numbers may appear, and trailing zeros are omitted. An equal pair is possible but is not guaranteed in each set.

Make a practice set

Select the worksheet, answer key, or both. When both are selected, the answer key prints after the questions. Keep it separate if you want your student to work independently.

After your student finishes

Choose one pair and explain the first different place. Rewrite a number with a trailing zero and explain why its value stays the same.
